the earth in space

Well we started a new topic in science this afternoon all about the earth in space. It’s going to be a really interesting topic.
We even got chance to have a quick look on the NASA website. Loads of fun and interesting facts on there.

We were wondering which planet is nearest to us?
how long would it take to travel to the moon on a jumbo jet?

Today we used the beautiful weather to see how the process of evaporation dries our wet towels.
We were suprised to see that 100g of water had evaporated after just 20 minutes.

(A few of us learned how to hang washing on a washing line too!!)

The states of water

Today we discovered that water appears in three different states. These are frozen as ice, liquid as water, vapour  as water vapour. We also learned that if we heat water up it evaporates at 100 degrees Celsius and becomes a gas.

We also used a piece of cool glass to condense water vapour, turning it back into water.

We really enjoyed this lesson especially comparing how quickly the ice melted at room temperature to holding it in our hands (body temperature).

Question from today’s science lesson…

What are the individual gases that make up the air we breathe?

Today we have been looking at gases in science.

showing that  even though we can’t see it, it is there.
